Along with the Bf 109, the 190s became the backbone of the Luftwaffe. The A-1 was the first official production version of the plane and began production in 1941. When the aircraft was introduced, it became largely superior to most allied aircraft fighting over France at the time. However the aircraft performance is reduced at high altitudes, preventing it from being used as an interceptor.
