Some may not like this French Battleship, but I've grown to like the Dunkerque. Also this match is the Epicenter game mode which replaced the old Encounter mode. I mainly just got in the center and used the island for cover. During World War I, the French Navy was forced to cancel two of its Battleship programs due to budget cuts. The Normandie Class, which only one was completed as an Aircraft Carrier, and the Lyon Class. Because of this, by the 1930s, a replacement for the much older Bretagne Class was needed. The overall design of the Dunkerque Class was based on a response to the German Deutschland Class cruisers (AKA Pocket Battleships). The need for a cruiser hunter resulted in the unusual gun layout of the ship, with two quadruple 330 mm gun turrets on the bow of the ship with only smaller caliber 130 mm dual purpose gun turrets on the stern. Two ships of the class were constructed, the lead ship, Dunkerque and her sister ship, Strasbourg. At the time of their launching, they were considered the fastest battleships at that time. After the fall of France, a British task force was dispatched to destroy the French Fleet near Mers-el-Kébir, along the North African coast. Badly damaged, both ships were able to return to Toulon, France, but were later scuttled.
