After capping point B, and having a few bad close encounters, I was nearly dead. Yet I was able to sneak around to their carrier and destroy it while dodging air dropped torpedoes. In real life, the Sims (DD-409) was the lead ship of her class. During World War II, she was assigned to Task Force 17, which was centered around the aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown (CV-5). During the Battle of the Coral Sea, the oiler ship USS Neosho (AO-23) had refueled USS Yorktown and USS Astoria. Afterwards, the Neosho detached from Task Force 17 with the USS Sims as escort. Separated from the fleet, the two vessels were spotted by a Japanese scout plane. The scout had mis-identified the two ships, reporting the Neosho as an aircraft carrier. Because of this the Japanese sent multiple squadrons to sink the "carrier" and her escort. The Sims did not survive the attack. The destroyer was struck by multiple bombs and it's engine room was destroyed by the explosions. About 16 sailors survived and stayed with the Neosho after the Sims sank. The USS Neosho had been set ablaze by the attack but stayed afloat until they were rescued by the USS Henley (DD-391). The Henley boarded survivors of both ships and used her guns to scuttle Neosho.
