This battle was during the 2016 "Japanese Threat" event, featuring Allies versus Axis. By 1940, the Soviet Union had already done research and built prototypes that featured rocket powered ram-jet engines with mixed results. During this time, Professor Mikhail Tikhonravov at RNII (Reaction-Engine Scientific Research Institute) had conceived an idea for a light fighter aircraft using a liquid-propellant rocket engine. The design would have short flight-times but would have superior speed and performance, as well as being cheap to produce. It would most likely would have served as an interceptor. The design came to the attention of A. G. Kostikov, who proposed the new aircraft, backed by Tikhonravov. Joseph Stalin himself gave approval for the continuation of the project. It was designated "Ko-3" and funding was provided for two prototypes. Kostikov was appointed as the chief designer. The aerodynamics were tested by building the fuselage as a glider. Later in the development phase the tail-mounted engine was omitted in favor of only the two wing-mounted engine pods. By this point the aircraft was called "302 P". The unreliable engines continued to cause delays until the project was cancelled in 1944. In the same year a trial was held and Kostikov was imprisoned for failing to deliver the 302 fighter on schedule.
