This battle was during the 2016 "Japanese Threat" event, featuring Allies versus Axis. From 1938 until 1943, the Messerschmitt Me 210 was under development. It was intended to replace the Bf 110 Zerstörer (Heavy Fighter). The flaws were so notorious that in the same year it was pressed into service, it was replaced by the Me 410. The Me 410 was basically a modified, drastically improved version of the Me 210. The airframe was lengthened and reshaped to improve stability and the Daimler-Benz DB 601 engines were replaced with the more powerful DB 603, which could produce greater horse power. They were used by the Luftwaffe as heavy fighters, night fighters, fast bombers and reconnaissance. Initially they were also used to intercept unescorted bombers. However they proved to be unsuccessful attacking bombers under escort by British Spitfire or American P-51 fighters. By 1944 Germany was on the defensive and focused most of it's aviation industry on single engine fighter aircraft. This, combined with heavy losses in combat, the production of the Me 410 was discontinued. The remaining aircraft stayed in service only acting as reconnaissance aircraft.
