Nice battle and earned the Hat Trick achievement. Awarded for killing one fighter or multirole, one heavy fighter and one ground attack aircraft in a single battle. The aircraft was ordered in 1936 but delivery of the first aircraft wasn't until 1938. These delays almost caused the Air Ministry to abandon the project. By 1938, the order had increased to 2,160 planes, the largest order in RAF history at that point. An early problem with the Mk I design was the machine guns, at curtain altitudes would freeze due to the condensation. A temporary solution was to seal the barrels with fabric patches that would allow hot air to heat the gun while keeping dirt and debris out. Another issue was the initial canopy. Driven by Pilot complaints, in 1939 the "flat" glass was replaced with blown glass, which had a curved design to allow more headroom and greater visibility. In 1940 the two pitch propeller was replaced on many aircraft to a constant speed propeller, which imroved speed and rate of climb.
