This battle was during the 2016 "Japanese Threat" event, featuring Allies versus Axis. Not to be confused with the Me 209 prototype of 1943. The Me 209 V1 was developed in 1937 with the primary goal of breaking the speed record for a single engine aircraft. It was not originally intended for a combat role. Early in 1939, the speed record was broken by the Heinkel He 100. Flown by Hans Dieterle, the He 100 achieved a top speed of 463.9 mph (746.6 kph). Less than a month later, in April 1939 the Me 209 took the title away from Heinkel when pilot Fritz Wendel took his aircraft up to 469 mph (756 kph). After the Battle of Britain, there was consideration for adapting the Me 209 for combat. One attempt for this conversion was to install a pair of 7.92mm machine guns within the engine cowling. This modification, however, caused a great reduction in speed and the project was abandoned. The V4 variant was mainly a fake re-dressing of the racing aircraft to make it appear to be combat capable. Military markings were applied and it visually appeared to be armed. In this capacity it was photographed and used for propaganda as the next evolutionary step of the Bf 109 Fighter. In 1943, an unrelated project also called Me 209 was prototyped as a potential replacement for the Bf 109, but had no correlation with the racer aircraft of 1937.

This battle was during the 2016 "Japanese Threat" event, featuring Allies versus Axis. The Ju 87 Sturzkampfflugzeug, or Stuka for short, was a dive bomber used by the German Luftwaffe during the Spanish Civil War and throughout World War II. In an example of psychological warfare, the landing gear legs had loud siren devices mounted on them, called Jericho Trumpets, which gave the aircraft it's iconic diving sound. The G models were a response to a need for anti-tank aircraft on the Eastern Front. Removed from their dive bombing role, they were given increased armor protection and wing mounted gun pods, fitted with the 37mm Bordkanone BK 3,7 autocannons. With the improvements in Soviet tank armor, these aircraft were intended as tank busters. In addition to the G model, some D models were equipped with the BK 3,7 guns as well. About 22 D-1 variants were converted into G-2 models. During the Second World War, the Slovak Republic's Air Force operated several German aircraft, including the Junkers Ju 87 D-3 and D-5. Around 1942 the RLM (German Air Ministry) considered building a manufacturing plant in Slovakia for Ju 87 Stuka production. But due to shortages of machine tools and technical engineers, the plan was abandoned.

This battle was during the 2016 "Japanese Threat" event, featuring Allies versus Axis. After the successful test flight of the first jet powered aircraft, the Heinkel He 178, Germany was looking for a next generation fighter. The Messerschmitt Me 262 was intended to fill that role after it's first jet powered test flight in July of 1942. However due to constant delays the Me 262 did not enter service until 1944. Because of this delay, there were some alternatives considered. In early 1943 there was a concept design which fitted the Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet engine to the airframe of the Bf 109 fighter. This would act as a stop-gap solution while the Me 262 was still in development. The resulting aircraft would have been called the Me 109 TL, shedding the "Bf" or "Bayerische Flugzeugwerke" naming convention of the 109 series and going with the standard Messerschmitt "Me" designation. However by March of 1943, it was decided that the Bf 109 fuselage would have had to be significantly modified to mount the engines and nose cone. The project was cancelled so that more focus could be put to the Me 262. No prototypes were ever built.

Was able to get two kills and a cap on the Soloman Islands map in my German BB that was released earlier this year. The SMS Kaiser was the lead ship of her class, which consisted of five ships for the Imperial German Navy. Built around 1911, the ship and her sisters were attached to the German High Seas Fleet. Early in World War I, the fleet would conduct raids on British coastal towns in an attempt to draw the British Grand Fleet out into the open sea. During the Battle of Jutland, the Kaiser, along with other Battleships, engaged the Cruiser HMS Southampton on two occasions. The first engagement, Kaiser fired eleven salvos and the second, fired four. All shots by the Kaiser missed, although the Battleship SMS Nassau did score a hit on Southampton. Later the German Squadron encountered a pair of M Class Destroyers, HMS Nestor and HMS Nomad. The Kaiser opened fire on the Nomad with her secondary guns. One of the shells penetrated the magazine HMS Nomad exploded and sank. Nestor was destroyed by other battleships in the squadron. Even later during the Battle of Jutland, a wounded German Cruiser, SMS Wiesbaden, was wounded and being chaced by three British Cruisers; HMS Defence, HMS Warrior and HMS Black Prince. The Kaiser opened fire on the Defence, striking the magazine and exploding the ship. The German dreadnought then pursued the Warrior. The HMS Warrior was able to sail closer to a group of British Queen Elizabeth Class Battleships for protection. One of these vessels, the HMS Warspite, was struck by a shell from the SMS Kaiser and the steering was damaged. Rather than stop the Captain continued forward which forced the ship out of formation, making it an attractive target for the Germans. Warspite did two full 360 degree rotations before the steering was repaired. During this time she was hit 13 times, and drew most of the German fire away from the HMS Warrior. Because of this, the captain of the Warrior assumed the actions of the Warspite were deliberate to distract the Germans from the damaged, fleeing British Cruiser. Interestingly enough, the damaged caused by the Kaiser resulted in the Warspite to have steering issues throughout most of her career.
