Being the last ship alive isn't a good thing, especially if you're a carrier. The end of this battle was amusing to me. I watched the enemy battleship and I knew as long as I hugged the island and stayed on the opposite side, he would never have a clear shot. The Hosho was Japan's first carrier. During 1932, a hostile engagement in China, known as the "Shanghai Incident", the ship was paired with Aircraft Carrier Kaga. Flights from the Hosho would support ground attack aircraft from Kaga in bombardments of airfields in China. In 1935 the ship was on maneuvers with other Japanese ships when they encountered a typhoon that seriously damaged the ship. She served briefly during the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II, but was limited by her size. The hangers and flight deck were not suited for some of the newer aircraft, such as the Mitsubishi A6M and Nakajima B5N. The ship was largely used as a training vessel for carrier crews and some secondary roles. After the war the ship was used for reparations, transporting over 40,000 Japanese military personnel and civilians.
