Epicenter mode is always frantic in my opinion. Charge the middle and you may die early, or linger on the outside and the enemy wins by cap. The Omaha class of warships was designed as "Scout" cruisers. This term would later change to Light Cruisers. The need for fast ships for naval reconnaissance was the driving force behind this new ship classification. While the ships were considered a success by the United States Navy, their World War I based design showed some of the older thinking among the designers. The use of casemate guns and the straight funnel design of the smoke stacks were examples of America's slow adoption to newer ship building ideas. However despite their drawbacks, they were used heavily during World War II, mostly on secondary roles. They were used for patrols and some escort duty, although some did see combat action. By the end of the war, none of the 10 ships of the class had been sunk. Shortly after the wars ending, all Omaha class cruisers were scrapped except for the USS Milwaukee (CL-5). That ship would be loaned to the Soviet Union and renamed "Murmansk" where it would serve until 1949. It too was scrapped shortly after it's return to the United States.
