What luck, sailing the Battleship Arkansas with no aircraft carriers. The ship was a beta testing gift and is of the same class as the Wyoming, but lacks any anti-aircraft equipment. Also this battle mode has since been modified in the game. In this instance the cap point is locked until a specific time. Once it unlocks, both teams try to cap, and the cap time is much less other game modes. The newer version of this mode instead had 3 layered rings to cap separately, forcing players to get really close to each other for strong engagements. Both ships of the Wyoming class were built as improved versions of the preceding Florida class battleships. Interestingly enough, the USS Arkansas is partially the reason for the states flag. While preparing for the ships commissioning, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) wanted to present the Arkansas state flag, only to discover the state had no flag. A design contest was initiated which resulted in the first Arkansas state flag. The original design is similar to the current, although slight modification and the number of stars has changed over the years. After commissioning, the ships first task was to transport U.S. president William Taft to Panama to oversee the Panama Canal which was still being constructed. The ships first Trans-Atlantic crossing took her to the Mediterranean Sea. The ship stopped in Naples for the birthday of Italy's King, Victor Emmanuel III. The ship would also serve in the British Grand Fleet during World War I. During World War II she would be used for convoy duty and coastal bombardments of Normandy, Southern France, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The ships fate would come during the post war "Operation Crossroads", with the testing of two atomic bombs and their effects on various, mostly outdated ships. The Arkansas survived the first bomb (ABLE) with light damage, however for the second explosion (BAKER), the ship was placed less than 250 meters from the epicenter. In photos of the baker explosion, you can actually see the Arkansas, a dark shadowy blot, within the blast column. Today the ship rests upside down sunken into the mud were it came to rest after the blast.
