I haven't participated in Ranked battles until this season. The matches have a smaller number of players. Here I'm able to sink a New Mexico and a Warspite in my Arizona. The USS Arizona was one of two ships of the Pennsylvania Class Super-Dreadnought Battleships. The origins of these ships was a compromise after the rejection of Senator Benjamin Tilliman's request for even larger battleships. Tilliman ordered a series of studies on extremely large warships, sometimes called "Maximum Battleships" or "Tilliman Battleships", which called for ship specifications that exceeded 80,000 tones of displacement and over 975 feet long. Congress opposed the concepts, claiming ships of the size would be too weak and too expensive. However some of the Tilliman ideas were used, on a smaller scale, for the construction of the USS Pennsylvania, which was approved in 1912. However Congress refused funding of any new battleships for the 1913 fiscal year. Pennsylvania's sister ship, the USS Arizona did not get budget approval until 1914. At the time the Navy had requested funding for 3 battleships to be built, but only Arizona was approved. The United States Navy was pleased with the ships, but some civilian publications commented negatively on the slow speeds when compared to Italian, British and Russian battleships of the time. During World War I, both ships saw limited service due to their oil fired boilers. The British focused their fueling efforts on coal fired vessels. At the beginning of America's involvement in World War II, the Arizona was attacked and sunk at Pearl Harbor. Meanwhile Pennsylvania was undergoing maintenance at the time and only received light damage from the attack. The Pennsylvania would go on to perform coastal bombardments and participate in the Battle of Surigao Strait at Leyte Gulf. After the war, the Pennsylvania would be used for the atomic testing at Bikini Island during Operation Crossroads.
