Flowerhorn cichlid in the video is under 3 inches in length & is growing fast. This was given to me as kamfa flowerhorn cichlid & its not the purest of kamfa strain. The nuchal hump also called as the" KOK" is not as big as one would expect in a 3 inch flowerhorn.
If you are new to Ornamental fish keeping & wondering what I'm talking about, maybe some information about this wonderful fish would help.
Flowerhorn cichlids are man made through selective breeding & all this started in south east Asia in 1990's. The strain Kamfa is a type of flowerhorn. If you are wondering whats different about this fish then, patterns on the body, the eyes, the shape of the body,mouth,fins etc is what separates Kamfa from other types of flowerhorn. But who cares as long as you love & admire this fish with such an awesome personality.
Aquarium care for flowerhorn, this is what I follow mostly -
Tanks size - 75 gallon for a single fish, I would suggest start right away with a big tank as these fish grow fast. I have this fish in my 20 gallon & will have to move it into my 50 gallon shortly.
Filtration - buy the best filter you can afford like a canister filter, in case you are wondering whats running in my tank. I have a over head filter & a sponge filter. I follow weekly water change. These guys are messy eaters without a good filtration system the tank would have high amount of fish waste which can become fatal for your fish. Also make sure the aquarium is well aerated.
Temperature - I maintain my flowerhorn tank temperature at 78-80°F (25.5°C to 26.6°C)
Food - I feed protein rich food, Frozen & dried shrimp, Pellets like Hikari bio gold, Dried fish soaked in water, Blood worms etc. If you can get live insects like crickets, they would eat them happily. I have not fed any live fish to my flower horn as live fish may have internal worms which might be harmful.
Tank mates - I always keep flowerhorn cichlid in a separate tank as I find it risky to keep them in a community tank.However I have Red devil & flower-horn cross breed cichlid with my Red devils without any trouble until now.
pH level - 7.5 is what I maintain, the rage is 7.5 to 8
Tank decoration for Flower-horn cichlid - Its easy just keep it bare bottom & add a clay pot or any rock for it to hide behind. I have sand in this tank as its safe in flowerhorn fish tank. I suggest not to have gravel or small pebbles as I have seen these fish moving the gravel & accidentally swallowing small rocks or gravel, if this happens it may be fatal to this fish.
